Hans Bergström ceiling lamp
Rare ceiling lamp designed by Hans Bergström and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1950s.
This ceiling lamp is composed of a conical opaline glass shade suspended by three fine brass rods, which converge elegantly at the top and are connected by a brass canopy. The lamp’s structure reflects Bergström’s balance between material refinement and geometric clarity. The milky glass diffuser provides a soft, evenly distributed light that enhances the sculptural form of the shade while producing a warm, ambient illumination characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century lighting. The brass components contribute a warm tone that complements the opal glass, emphasizing the lamp’s harmonious proportion and craftsmanship.
Hans Bergström (1910–1996) was one of Sweden’s leading lighting designers and the founder of Ateljé Lyktan in 1934. His work combined functionality and artistry, developing a distinctive approach to light diffusion and spatial balance that influenced Swedish lighting design throughout the mid-20th century. Ateljé Lyktan’s lamps from this period are recognized for their architectural clarity and meticulous craftsmanship.
This piece remains in good original condition with minor signs of age and use. A small nick is visible on the lower edge of the glass shade. The brass parts retain their original patina, lending depth and authenticity to the surface. Dimensions are 43 cm in diameter (16.9 inches) and 75 cm in height (29.5 inches).
