Information

These very rare ceiling lamps were designed by Hans Bergström and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden. The design is characterized by a harmonious interplay of materials and form, reflecting the precision and elegance typical of Scandinavian mid-century lighting. The lamps feature a circular composition, structured around a brass framework from which multiple white opaline glass shades are suspended.

Each shade is formed in a gently tapered vase-like shape, with a smooth, matte surface that diffuses light softly and evenly. The white opaline glass offers a clean and understated aesthetic, while also enhancing the quality of illumination. The shades are evenly distributed around the perimeter of the brass structure, providing a sense of balance and symmetry. The brass elements, including fittings and suspension components, exhibit a warm golden hue, subtly contrasted by areas of natural patina developed over time.

The overall form of the ceiling lamps is expansive and sculptural. The structure spans a full 100 cm (39.4 inches) in diameter, with a height of 190 cm (74.8 inches), making it suitable for larger interior spaces. The suspension system includes vertical support cables that maintain the circular orientation and structural integrity of the lamp while contributing to its visual lightness.

Condition is good vintage, with minor tarnishing on the brass consistent with age and no visible damage to the glass components. The wiring and hanging system are preserved in functional condition, reflecting the quality of manufacture and durability of the design.

Hans Bergström (1910–1996) was a key figure in Swedish lighting design and the founder of Ateljé Lyktan. His work during the mid-20th century helped define the aesthetics of Scandinavian modernism, combining clean lines with refined material choices. These ceiling lamps exemplify his approach—functional yet decorative, and designed with an enduring sensitivity to both form and atmosphere.
